Supplement Overview of MusclePharm Combat Protein Powder
Muscle Pharm Protein is a blend of 5 different types of macronutrient sources – three forms of Whey, as well as Micellar Casein and Egg White
The supplement is designed for athletes who want slow, medium and fast digesting and acting sources of protein.
It also contains a couple of additional enzymes and a BCAA blend, which adds to the Branched Chain Amino Acids that are already present in the macronutrient itself.
If you want to learn what BCAAs are and why these amino acids are extremely important if your goal is to build lean muscle mass and help your muscles recover – check out our full informational article on Branched Chain Amino Acids at BCAA Guide: The Facts, Benefits and Side Effects.
And now let’s take a closer look at the ingredients.
Analysis on Ingredient List
The Micro Filtered Whey Protein Blend that’s present in MP Protein includes Whey Concentrate, Whey Isolate and Whey Hydrolysate. It also contains Micellar Casein and Egg White Albumen.
Concentrate form has low levels of fat and cholesterol, although it tends to be high in carbs, in the form of lactose. Regarding protein by weight, Whey Concentrate sits at anywhere between 29-89% and manages to retain most nutrients naturally found in whey.
Isolate form is usually fat and lactose-free. It provides around 90%+ of protein by weight and is ideal for consumers who are lactose-intolerant or want a fast-acting protein due to their training goals.
Hydrolysate form is predigested and partially hydrolyzed, for easier absorption and metabolizing. It is perfect for people who have various digestion problems or allergies, even though it’s the most expensive form and spikes your insulin levels by around 28-43% more than concentrate and isolate forms.
Micellar Casein is a slow release and slow absorption, anti-catabolic protein powder which is ideal to take during night time, right before you go to bed.
It’s also great for weight-loss goals if taken just after waking up, for breakfast, as it is extremely satiating and makes you feel full for a very long time.
Egg White Albumen is a fast-digesting source of protein. Albumen is just another word for egg whites, which means that there is no yolk present.
This protein source is ideal for taking just before, during or right after exercise, as it is one of the most rapidly absorbed sources of protein. It goes straight into feeding and repairing your muscles after an intense workout – just when your muscles need this vital macronutrient the most.
This Whey Blend, along with Micellar Casein and Egg White Albumen make Muscle Pharm Combat an extremely versatile source of protein, suitable for any training goal.
Here are some other things to note:
It contains additional Glutamine – which is an amino acid that’s extensively used in protein biosynthesis.
Supplementing Glutamine with a protein supplement is a great way to enhance its efficiency – improving recovery, muscle development and growth.
It also contains an additional BCAA Blend. You’re already getting a very decent dose of Branched Chain Amino Acids from the protein powder itself – and now you’re getting an even bigger boost!
This makes the product extremely efficient for professional bodybuilders and athletes, as well as advanced level gym-goers. However, it won’t be good for beginners or casuals, as it will provide them with more BCAAs than they need or can even utilize during training.
The product also contains various other amino acids, like Glycine, Tyrosine, Cystine, Methionine and so on – replenishing pretty much everything that you need after an arduous training session.
And finally, this protein shake contains an Enzyme Blend (Protease, Lactase), which aid in the digestion and the breaking down of various amino acids for faster and more efficient absorption.
All this combined make this product a force to be reckoned with.
That said, it does have several downsides, read on to find out!
Product Features: The PROs and CONs of It
Now that we’ve checked the ingredients more carefully, here are all the other facts pertaining to MusclePharm Combat Protein Powder:
- Slow, Medium and Fast Sources of Protein
- Extremely Versatile
- Low Calories
- Fast Amino Acid Absorption
- Additional BCAA Blend
- Very High Cholesterol
- Proprietary Amino Acid Blend
- Bad Taste
- Contains Sucralose and Acesulfame-K
- Absolutely Not for Beginners or Casual Gym-Goers
- Low Protein-by-Weight Ratio (24g out of 35g scoop)
As you can see, the biggest downsides are the Cholesterol content, the Taste and the fact that it’s not suitable for newbies.
A whopping 27% of daily allowed Cholesterol value in just one serving is just too much!
The Taste, according to hundreds of users, is pleasant to some, but horrid and much too sweet for most.
Another thing of note is that the Amino Acid Blend is proprietary. Which means you’ll never know the exact amounts of all the amino acids that you’re getting.
That’s not a very good thing, in any supplement whatsoever.
Our Evaluation of Combat Protein Powder by MusclePharm
Our experience with this product was wonderful – but we know what we’re doing and can handle it.
We can fully and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who’s extremely serious about their training and wants to propel their results to the next level. It’s perfect for people who want to make bodybuilding or intensive training an integral part of their life.
However, beginners and casuals should look elsewhere and should not take it – as taking more BCAAs than your body can handle may cause some nasty side effects like fatigue, loss of coordination, diarrhea, reduced levels of dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, and histamine inside the brain.
So it’s not for everyone, and if you’re someone who doesn’t like the supplement described in our Muscle Pharm Combat Protein Review – we can recommend a safer and better one, without any BCAA spiking, at Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Review.
Protein Powder Supplement made by MusclePharm is fantastic for professional bodybuilders and athletes, as well as all those who take their training very seriously and want to advance their results to the next level.
It is definitely not for everyone, and absolutely not for beginners, those who are starting out or even the vast majority of casual gym-goers who don’t train regularly and intensively.
For a more balanced and healthy type of protein powder supplement which also provides exceptional results with virtually no side effects, take a look at Transparent Labs Grass Fed Whey Protein Review.
That’s because the addition of a BCAA Blend, combined with the BCAAs that are already in the protein itself, will be too much for most people. Unless they start going to the gym and giving it their all, so that their body and muscles actually start needing the enormous amounts of amino acids that this protein shake provides.
This Protein Powder Supplement is only for those who know what they are doing and have concrete and clear goals – gains, gains, and more gains!
